You asked:What are some things I can’t have in my room?If it’s dangerous to have in a small space, don’t bring it. I can pretty much guarantee that things like candles and extension cords will be off-limits, since the fire risk is too great. Anything toxic or flammable is a no-no, and if it will mar the walls or furniture, leave it at home, since damages will eventually empty your wallet. Check before bringing any cooking appliances, as they are a major source of accidental 3 a.m. fire alarms. Burnt popcorn in the middle of the night is a hassle. What many people don’t know is that a lot of schools have a ban on alcohol paraphernalia, even if there isn’t any alcohol in the room. Things like shot glasses or wine glasses are probably not cool to have out in the open. Residence-life departments at each school have a list of prohibited items, so check your school’s Web site.
