You asked:I’m feeling really burned out with schoolwork and totally unmotivated to get into the social scene. How can I get more pumped?A great way to get excited about socializing is to, well … just get out there and do it. Accept that invitation to see a show or movie with some people from down the hall -- even if you don’t really feel like it. You might actually find that you have a great time, and that will motivate you to get out even more. If you're feeling particularly shy, ask a roommate or close friend to go with you. Since you already feel comfortable with the people you know, you can use them as a buffer when meeting other cool new peeps. If you spend all your time studying, no wonder you’re feeling fried. Your college years provide a chance for you to break out of your comfort zone and try new stuff. Not everything you do will be awesome, and some people you meet won’t turn out to be true blue … but you will find some awesome friends and activities to get you stoked. If all else fails, remind yourself that extracurriculars are impressive on your resume and during job interviews, so find something to join. Odds are some club members will have similar interests, right? Don’t do anything that makes you feel totally uneasy, but at the same time, don’t allow yourself to miss out on potential good friends and good times just because you’re hyper-focused on your studies. Everyone needs a break, and cutting loose on occasion gets you recharged when it’s time to buck up and crack the books. About the R.A.
